About The Wooden Doerr

Steve Doerr began his woodworking as a hobby in the early 1980's. Over the years, Steve continued his hobby as a self taught woodworker through the use of books, magazines, videos/DVD's, discussions with other woodworkers and attending demonstrations. After completing 37 years in the field of public education, Steve decided that it was time for him to spend a lot more time in his shop doing one of the things he loves best—woodworking. As a result, Steve enjoys making things for his friends, family and others that appreciate well crafted woodworking products.
During the past 30 years, Steve has shown a real appreciation for Shaker and Arts and Craft furniture. But, has made other styles based on the desires of his customers. In 2006 Steve began to learn turning and enjoy using a lathe. As a result, Steve's main focus since retirement has focused on turning. He now enjoys making bowls, platters, hollow forms, wall hangings and pens so others may enjoy the beauty of the wood grain God has created.
Valerie Doerr began her pursuit of woodturning in 2014. One of her desires in becoming a woodturner to maximize the shop and tools that Steve had. She quickly took a three day workshop from Jimmy Clewes and has been learning and growing as a turner ever since. She now has her own lathe and a spot in the shop that is hers. Valerie's signature pieces are natural edge bowls.
